If Rodrigo y Gabriela taught us anything, it’s that acoustic guitar can be surprisingly metal. The band covered Metallica’s “Orion” and Testament’s Alex Skolnick has sat in with them. Benjamin Woods is helping that theory out. He did a cover of what’s possibly Judas Priest’s most metal song ever, “Painkiller.” Not only does he even pull off the drum solo intro via some frantic strumming, he keeps the high energy song going. It’s amazing to hear, even if you’ve never even heard the original. Then again, if you’ve never heard the original, you’re doing it wrong.
