The last time we saw Avenged Sevenfold video, they were making a statement about wars and how politicians are the puppet masters. or something like that. And it’s taken them until now, but they’ve finaly released a follow-up to the video in the form of “God Damn.” One of the catchier songs on the album, it’s gotten a video to go with it, and it’s a pretty interesting album.
As it start out, it looks like a typical performance videdo, with the band playing a warehouse in front of a grou of adoring fans. However, as the video progresses, if you’re watfhing it on a computer, you might think your feed is messed up or something, and as it continues, the band eventually becomes all digital. M. Shadows spoke to Billboard, who premiered the video today:
“There’s a bunch of ideas that were thrown into the mixing bowl there,” A7X frontman M. Shadows, who personally greeted all those who attended the shoot, tells Billboard, “but the main idea was to get fans involved and make sure the kids knew this is a song full of energy first and foremost — ‘hey, this is a record we can wrap our heads around. It’s cool live stuff. It’s a rockin’ song’ — but at the same time, we wanted the technological hint in there, so as the video progresses you start seeing things glitching out and all of a sudden the world turns digital. And by the end, there’s a little nod to the lyrics; you see an eyeball kind of in there as an Easter egg, which is kind of big brother watching what we do the whole time as the humans turn into a digital world.”
Shadows also spoke about the surprise-release of The Stage, admitting that it’s been a struggle and that surprise releases work better in the pop world. They have no regrets though, and say they’d do it again. Avenged will be on the road with Metallica this Summer, and intially, they’d planned on doing their own headlining tour instead of jumping on the road with them. Says Shadows:
“Lars [Ulrich] called me a few times to talk about this, and I said, ‘Dude, we just spent, like, a million dollars on building our stage and now it’s gonna have to sit in storage?'” Shadows says with a laugh. “But the more we thought about it, what rock bands besides AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Metallica get to play stadiums in 2017? So for me it’s one of those things where the positives outweigh the negatives so much, so why not be part of the biggest rock tour of the summer and make it awesome for the fans, and then we can do our thing later.”
Yeah, you don’t say no to Metallica. The band says that they’ll pretty much be playing the hits on tour with Metallica this Summer, so if you want to hear deep cuts, maybe you’ll check out their million dollar stage next year when they come back.
