The business portion of the music industry continues to evolve in order to keep it sustainable. We have seen crowdfunding campaigns, endless amount of merchandise, recurring tours, to hoping fans would help buy an entire building for creative purposes. It wasn’t too long ago when Gene Simmons asked who the next Beatles are going to be. Rock and metal are of course, still alive and kicking, however, the business aspect and making it profitable has become challenging over the years.

Let’s face it, how many times have we seen Anthrax book a tour? Admittedly, we aren’t sick of seeing Anthrax live, they always deliver an outstanding performance. However, you must assume, they are exhausted, touring to make a living in the face of declining record sales for everyone. In a recent video posted by FaceCulture’s YouTube, there’s a clip that includes an exhausted looking Frank Bello and Joey Belladonna. The short clip shows Bello taking the lead, discussing the music industry and how illegal downloads affected the music industry unless you are Adele.

Of course, streaming is what’s killing record sales these days, and it’s definitely worth having an argument that bands deserve to be paid more on streaming services. There’s another discussion that suggests that the music on demand of illegal downloading led to a whole generation of expecting their music for free and not having to buy a whole CD for one or two songs they liked. Bello doesn’t bring up streaming in the interview excerpt.
