We’re all sick to death of the think-pieces and analysis of the Dimebash incident by now. Phil Anselmo apologized once, said he wouldn’t keep groveling at the feet of the music community beyond that, and the articles and peer interviews keep rolling in. It’s obvious that no one on either side of the popular opinion towards Anselmo are going to change their minds at this point.
In a lengthy piece with Rolling Stone that ran today, Anselmo further discussed the incident when prompted, but you can tell he’s starting to get frustrated with repeating himself. While discussing where he feels popular culture is heading in the present day, however, he drops a surprising revelation about his early life:
“This is shit I’ve never fucking opened up about until now,” he says. “But when people constantly talk about being a victim or something, there are going to be certain points where I have to step back and go, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa.’ Especially when people shout and scream about us living in a rape culture and men are this evil product. … Guess who was molested his entire child-fucking-hood by numerous people, both men and women. … ” He pauses, and lowers his chin to make eye contact. “Me.” He pauses again and sharpens his glare. “Me.”…”I’ve never told the world this, but I am now maybe because I’m almost 50 and I don’t give a fuck anymore,” he says. “But it happened.”
The full piece is a good read for any Pantera/Anselmo fans, and touches on his current projects as in addition to the usual topics (racism accusations, his relationship with Vinnie Paul, etc)
