Since we started reporting on The Ghost Inside tragic bus incident last year, we have received all sorts of news regarding their recovery and it’s been a roller coaster since the beginning. As a quick rundown, there’s been news regarding their healing process like frontman Jonathan Vigil’s bone infection or the loss of drummer Andrew Tkaczyk’s leg but there’s also good news like Tkaczyk’s rehab which allowed him to sit on the kit once again.
The last update we had received was given by guitarist Zach Johnson, who lost some of his toes during the accident and was told he require several surgeries for his abdominal hernia and unhealed femur. He recently underwent through his 9th hernia surgery and when he was preparing for his other surgeries, he received some great news and alternatives:
I went into my ortho doctor to schedule my major surgeries and hospital time today. And I left with a smile on my face! After speaking to other surgeons/reviewing my case, he came up with an alternative. This wasn’t even presented as an option last time! I’ll be going in for a smaller surgery, taking the screws out of my knee, with walking on it, that should put pressure and signals to help it mend. I’ll be seeing a bone specialist to be put on an array of meds/injections, and will use a machine that stimulates bone growth daily. There is NO guarantee this will work, but with my history he recommends this before the last resort. I’ll be having surgery as soon as he can, and 3 months after I’ll have an idea of where I’m at with it. The dark clouds looming over me have brightened up a bit. Today was a good day. Enjoy the weekend! FUCK YES.
But wait! there’s more! The following day, drummer Andrew Tkaczyk posted an update on his progress behind the kit now that he has his prosthetic leg and it seems to be doing great.
As a reminder, The Ghost Inside is planning to get back on stage as soon as humanly possible and have already scheduled their first appearance on 2017’s Vans Warped Tour. It may seem far but 2017 is getting closer and closer but with the recent news, we’re optimistic they’ll be ready by then.
