Cell phones and picture-taking during concerts has been a topic widely discussed recently, as Apple announced the patent for a new device that would block any camera recording features of an iPhone to tackle the persistent issue of people recording entire shows with them. Many have expressed their opinion in favor of or against the idea and its brought attention to other solutions like Yondr’s pouch used by The Lumineers. But Slipknot’s Corey Taylor went the good ol’ traditional way when dealing with the issue at a recent show.
Over the weekend, Slipknot’s Facebook page shared a video showing Taylor slapping a phone out of a fan’s hand while playing “Eyeless.” Of course, the reactions have been all over the place with a vast majority applauding Taylor’s action while others think that he had no right to do it. Taylor has expressed his opinions about cellphones in the past. In an interview with WRIF, he said:
“So many people have their faces glued to their phones and they’re not paying attention, I point and laugh anytime I see somebody trip walking down the street, and I’m brutal — I mean, I’m brutal. It’s loud, it’s obnoxious, there’s a lot of pointing, I’m asking people, ‘Did you see that?’ I love it. I think it’s funny.”
He also went to his twitter and responded to his fans about the video

Okay. But it doesn’t mean I w/ a broken neck & still playing a show can’t get pissed that someone’s ignoring it. https://t.co/NRcJYhE0sc

Taylor’s actions aren’t the first by an artist critical of cell phones at shows. Jordan Buckley of Every Time I Die kicked a phone out of a fan’s hand a few years back, and Disturbed frontman David Draiman went off on a fan for texting her daughter during a show. But many feel they have a right as someone that’s purchased a ticket to a show to do whatever they want once they’re there. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think.
