For a while, drummer Joey Jordison was synonymous with Slipknot. Then he left the band (or was pushed) in 2013 and started his own project, Scar the Martyr. The band released an album, toured, then singer Henry Derek joined Act of Defiance, a band with former Megadeth members. StM’s keyboard player also left, which gave Jordison an opportunity to reflect, find a new vocalist and keyboardist, and now the band has emerged as VIMIC. The band’s first single, “Simple Skeletons” debuted today on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal channel and on it’s website, and Jordison caught up with host Jose Mangin to talk about the band and their debut album, Open Your Omen, which will be out on Roadrunner Records later this year:
“I decided I wanted to start fresh,” he told Mangin. “I did not want to keep rehashing old ideas. If I am going to keep going, I really just wanted to break loose and wipe the slate clean. So I renamed the band, and I got a new singer and a new keyboard player [plus] three other members from the Scar the Martyr lineup. We went down into the basement and started demoing material and everything started clicking.”
There’s no release date set for VIMIC’s debut album just yet, and the band says that with minimal pressure from Roadrunner, they’re going to take their time on it. He does say they’ll be touring in support of the album once it’s out, though. The band’s lineup is as follows:
Kalen Chase – vocals
Kris Norris – guitar/vocals
Jed Simon – guitar/vocals
Kyle Konkiel – bass/vocals
Matt Tarach – keyboards
Joey Jordison – drums
You can hear “Simple Skeletons” on SiriusXM’s website.
