As soon as Lemmy’s death was announced, fans of the hard-living Motörhead singer congregated to his favorite haunt, the Rainbow Bar and Grill on Los Angeles’ sunset strip to mourn his passing. Having lived just a few blocks away from the iconic bar, Lemmy often held court there when he wasn’t on the road. It wasn’t out of the ordinary at all to see him drinking a Jack and Coke and playing the video slot machine at the outside bar. So it should come as no surprise that the bar is having a public memorial for him this Saturday (9).
From 2pm to 2am, fans are invited to “come celebrate the life of Lemmy Kilmister” at the Rainbow. The invite was posted at the bar’s Facebook page with a picture of Lemmy at the bar playing the video game, which was removed and taken to his home after he was diagnosed with cancer. In other news, Metal Hammer reports that there’s a campaign underway to get “Ace of Spades” to be the No. 1 song in the UK. The “Motörhead For No. 1” campaign is seeking to unseat Justin Bieber at the top of the singles chart by having fans buy the single. It’s a popular thing to do on the UK chart. If you’ll remember, Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” was a No. 1 song after a campaign to get it there a few years back, which is why the band played a show at Finsbury Park that later became a DVD. Head here if you’re down for the cause.
Things are starting to heat up this evening which is brilliant to see. It seems that now Justin Bieber is the current UK…
