Guitarist Kim Thayil hinted at what would be Soundgarden’s seventh album earlier this year, and recently vocalist Chris Cornell (who is promoting a new solo album, Higher Truth) Cornell told Rolling Stone that a new Soundgarden is indeed in the works.
Said Cornell:
“We’re already working on new material for an album. And then I’ve got several other irons in the fire and things going that I won’t mention now. There’s a lot of things coming in addition to Higher Truth, as well as a new Soundgarden album.”
Cornell is plenty busy, already in the midst of a solo acoustic tour promoting Higher Truth into early November, but it’s good to hear time is being made for a new Soundgarden studio album. The new album will hopefully be out sometime in 2016, following 2012’s King Animal which was their first new album since 1996.
