Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

Well okay, the charts aren’t actually ruined (except for the fact that the soundtrack to Twilight is on it). There have been various boosts to certain albums this week and we’ve got some debuts from some pretty awesome bands from around the globe from Massachusetts to Finland to Norway to the Byzantine Empire (a.k.a. West Virginia). Take a gander at the numbers and keep in mind that the snark you might find written is not for our benefit, but for yours. Okay, it’s mostly for us.

Steven Wilson, The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories) (Kscope) #52, 9,975 sold

Quoth the raven, record sales galore.

 

Within The Ruins, Elite (Entertainment One) #112, 3,750 sold

The third album from this Massachusetts deathcore band is our top metal debut for this week and is also the band’s best debut yet. Sure, Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson sort of qualifies as metal, but he’s probably disagree.

 

Stratovarius, Nemesis (Eagle Rock) 1,300 sold

Finnish power metallers Stratovarius have released their fourteenth album and is the first album since 1994’s Fourth Dimension not to feature Jörg Michael on drums.

 

Darkthrone, The Underground Resistance (Peaceville/Snapper)  1,175 sold

The legendary Norwegian metal band has put out their fifteenth album, which is probably selling better over in Norway.

 

Byzantine, Byzantine (Self-Released) 340 sold

The self-titled fourth album from the reunited Byzantine is their first album since 2008.

 

Notable Sales
Led Zeppelin, Celebration Day (Atlantic) #25, 16,700 sold

Looks like a lot of people needed to get the Led out since this got a whopping 274% boost. It also might have had to do with the fact that it was super cheap on Amazon.

 

Kid Rock, Rebel Soul (Atlantic), #56, 9,200 sold

Cricket. Cricket.

 

Bullet For My Valentine, Temper Temper (RCA) #60, 8,275 sold

Chris Jericho is a guest on the track “Dead To The World”, which might be named after his wrestling career.

 

Red, Release the Panic (Provident) #65, 7,450 sold

It might be because I’m hungry, but I think Release The Picnic sounds better.

 

Buckcherry, Confessions (Century Media) #77, 6,575 sold

It’s a typical second week drop for this album.

 

Black Veil Brides, Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones (Lava/Universal Republic) #121, 3,350 sold

These guys would’ve made a terrific boss fight in Brutal Legend from a few years back.

 

Hollywood Undead, Notes from the Underground (A&M/Octone) #135, 3,100 sold

It’s had a few drops, but this album is still holding steady.

 

Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) #140, 3,000 sold

Their next album will probably sell even more with this special guest. Sales are over 200,000.

 

Coheed and Cambria, The Afterman: Descension (Hundred Handed) #142, 3,000 sold

Another drop, but this is over the 50,000 mark.

 

Halestorm, The Strange Case Of… (Atlantic) #143, 2,975 sold

Not much of a shift for Lzzy Hale and crew.

 

Deftones, Koi No Yokan (Reprise) #154, 2,825 sold

This just crossed the 150,000 mark.

 

Stone Sour, House of Gold & Bones (Roadrunner) #158, 2,725 sold

Only a little over a month before we see Part 2 on the charts.

 

In This Moment, Blood (Century Media) #159, 2,700 sold

Sales, bloody sales.

 

Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist (Prospect Park) #173, 2,525 sold

This got a small boost this week. As if it needed it.

 

Shinedown, Amaryllis (Atlantic) #177, 2,500 sold

This will be over 375,000 by next week.

 

Soundgarden, King Animal (Universal) #195, 2,200 sold

Back on the charts? I guess they were away for too long.

 

Puscifer, Donkey Punch The Night EP, (Puscifer Entertainment) #197, 2,200 sold

A second week drop, but it’s an EP to be fair. Plus, the name totally rules.

 

Suffocation,  Pinnacle of Bedlam (Nuclear Blast) 1,275 sold

The album hasn’t quite reached the pinnacle of sales.

 

Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 730 sold

A drop in sales for the crown.
