Lets flash back to a month ago when we posted about Coheed and Cambria’s new song, “You’ve Got Spirit, Kid.” This release more than likely sent a slew of nerdy fans everywhere to their drawing boards in an attempt to develop conspiracy theories that could loosely tie the band’s first non-concept album The Color Before the Sun into the Armory Wars storyline from the previous seven albums. Well, get ready, because the cover art for this album might be just as cool as whatever Coheed fantasy is unfolding within the crevices of your mind.
Artist Nick Steinhardt (Touche Amore, Deafheaven) created the dreamscape of an old-fashioned, country style home disbanding into the lake and sky around it to reflect the emotions conveyed in Coheed’s eighth full-length. The Color Before the Sun will be the first album in which lead singer and guitarist Claudio Sanchez expresses his darkest feelings and tells his own personal story. If the rest of the songs follow suit of “You’ve Got Spirit, Kid,” then we can be expect a release full of raw, power-pop jammers that still manages to be so undeniably Coheed and Cambria.
As of this morning, one can pre-order a limited edition, deluxe box set that not only includes the CD but also two hardcover books, one featuring album lyrics and artwork from The Color Before the Sun, while a separate book presents fans with the opportunity to delve deeper into the album with prose and photographs created throughout the creative process. Also included are The Color Before the Sun demos, an in-studio DVD, and a clear 7-inch record. Don’t worry, there’s more – purchasers will also receive an instant download of “You Got Spirit, Kid,” a membership card, a custom house key, a lapel pin, a certificate of authenticity; as well as exclusive, members-only access to new music, videos, concert tickets, merchandise and commentary from the band. This might just be the world’s biggest box set but it’s still not nearly as big as Sanchez’s hair in the A Favor House Atlantic video. (How’s that for a #tbt?)
