When the 15 nominees for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class Of 2013 were announced, we had our money on Rush being one of the inductees after years of getting ignored. Turns out we were right.
It was officially announced today that Rush will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next year. Joining the legendary Canadian rock trio will be Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman, Heart and Albert King. Geddy Lee shared his excitement over the induction in an interview with Rolling Stone.
While it may have helped Rush that this was the first year the Hall Of Fame implemented the “fan’s ballot” (allowing the fans to technically vote), the truth is that their induction was long overdue. Many will likely remain bummed that Deep Purple once again were left off (even Geddy Lee tells Rolling Stone should’ve been inducted), but at least the Hall Of Fame are finally acknowledging the almighty Rush.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on April 18, 2013 at the Nokia Theater in L.A., and will air on May 18 via HBO. Tickets go onsale to the public January 25.
