You’ve got to give Geoff Tate some credit for addressing head-on that some people hate his album. His “best rant” contest was a pretty fun idea. Of course you knew where it was going, though. There were probably tons of vitriol-filled rants legitimately picking apart Frequency Unknown for not just the album, but the way in which Tate and his former bandmates are making a mockery of a band they once loved. The winner, however, closes his ‘rant’ by saying “you guys rock,” and giving a track by track breakdown of the album. His biggest complaint is that there are four slow songs in a row. That’s it. That’s about as angry as he gets. It’s as if Tate really wanted the contest to be “most passive aggressive semi-rant,” and he found a clear winner in William McBride. Check out his “rant” above.
