You know when Marilyn Manson, a lightning rod for controversy, has to issue a clarification regarding a video he appeared in, that it’s going to be a bit controversial. That’s exactly what’s happened following the release of a shelved short film for visual/technical collective Sturmgruppe that was helmed by director Eli Roth (Hostel). In the 2:40 clip, singer Lana Del Ray is sexually assaulted, Manson goes onto a roof with an assault rifle and gets set to open fire, there’s a debauched dinner party going on, and a birthday gets disrupted by violence. In all, it’s pretty dark and disturbing, and even Roth thinks so, having told Larry King last year “The footage is so sick, it’s been locked in a vault for over a year.” That’s not the case anymore. However, enough people have linked the video to Manson directly that their publicists contacted Pitchfork to state that the footage was not filmed for a specific Manson video or project.
