Swedish viking metal veterans Månegarm have returned with Edsvuren, released on August 29th via Napalm Records. Marking a powerful new chapter in their 30-year career and continuing their legacy, the record blends Norse mythology, folk traditions, and blackened ferocity. To continue with the celebration, Metal Insider recently caught up with frontman Erik Grawslö (bass/vocals), who shared his top five favorite viking metal bands, a fitting tribute to both the band’s influence on the genre and the spirit embedded in Edsvuren.

01) Falkenbach – “Eweroun”

”There are so many great Falkenbach songs but I have listened to the Asa album an unhealthy amount of times and here I pick ”Eweroun”. I really love the vocal melodies and this way of composing and arranging songs is right up my alley. Falkenbach has been a big inspiration for me.”

02) Einherjer – “Nidstong”

”This is a super cool song, really groovy with, according to me, the perfect pace! I love it!”

03) Vintersorg – “När alver sina runor sjungit”

“A song that depicts the northern landscape and storytelling in melodies”.

04) Borknagar – “Up North”

”A catchy song with amazing vocals from the one and only Mr Vortex.”

05) Bathory – “through blood and thunder”

“I think it sums up the entire genre.”
