Lemmy famously started off Motorhead’s shows with “We are Motorhead and we play Rock and Roll.” Sure the trio’s take on rock and roll borrowed quite a bit from punk rock and metal, but at the heart of it all, they really were a rock band. Perhaps there’s no better way to underscore it by having a non-metal band play one of their songs. Luna, a shoegazey “dream pop” band from the ’90s that recently reunited, came by The Onion’s AV Club for their “A.V. Undercover” series and chose to cover “Killed by Death.” It’s certainly more sedate than the original, but it’s also heavier than anything any Luna fan might expect from them. Singer/guitarist Dean Wareham’s vocals seem a little disaffected, but it’s still a pretty solid cover, and the drummer crushes it.
