chinonmeThe Super Bowl was a mixed bag for pretty much everyone. Carolina sucked big time, Denver’s win was marred by Peyton’s weird Budweiser shout-outs and kissing Papa John. And then there was the halftime show. Metallica stole the show the prior evening, and when it was announced that Coldplay would be headlining, the nation let out a collective ‘meh.’ There’s nothing really wrong with the UK brand, just that they make palatable rock music that’s inoffensive to everyone. Surrounded by Bruno Mars and Beyonce, Chris Martin kind of got eclipsed by the other guys. And it turns out that Deftones singer Chino Moreno also isn’t the biggest fan. In an interview with NME for their “Soundtrack of My Life” feature, he was asked what song he could no longer listen to any more. He chose Coldplay:

“One band I just can’t listen to is Coldplay. I don’t know why. They spring no emotion at all to me. Any of their songs, I hear them, and there’s just the most blank sound that I’ve heard. I’m not trying to be an asshole in any way. I just really… it does absolutely nothing for me, it’s gotta be the most boring music in the world.”

Well, that’s one thing that Chino has in common with Gwyneth Paltrow. And also David Bowie and Beyonce, both of who turned down performing songs written by Coldplay.

Chino does go on to talk about songs and music that he actually does like. such as KC & the Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty,” Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?” He says that  Weezer’s Blue Album is a record he wished he wrote, Afrika Bambatta’s “Planet Rock” was the first song that made him want to be a musician, and he can’t get Justin Bieber out of his head.
