It seems like System of a Down announced their comeback just in time. If it’s not hot chicks on violins covering them, it’s viking metal masters Amon Amarth. The band’s unlikely take on “Aerials” is available as a bonus download for fans that preorder the band’s new album, Surtur Rising from FYE stores. As strange as it sounds to have one of the premier Swedish death metal bands cover an American band sometimes lumped in with the nu-metal scene, their take on the song delivers. A good cover varies at least somewhat from the original, and between the deathy vocals in the verses and the production, this is much heavier than the original. But the creepy, clean-vocal first chorus brings things back to the Toxicity album closer. So thumbs up to Amon Amarth for pulling off the near impossible and making a cover that stands alongside the original without selling out.  Surtur Rising comes out on March 29.
