Some corners of the internet rejoiced earlier today after reading that Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, currently serving a 35-year prison sentence for child sex offenses, had hung himself. However, it turns out that the  Internet Chronicle isn’t the most reputable news source. It might have been wishful thinking on peoples’ parts, but it didn’t take long for the hoax, that said he’d died from “Self asphyxiation, or suicide by hanging,” to spread online. That story actually dated back to April 2nd (which is actually a day after April Fools day, of course), but it took until recently to really spread.

According to Walesonline, a Prisons Service spokeswoman confirmed that Watkins was still alive. “Ian Watkins has not died,” she stated. The most recent legitimate news around Watkins was that he was moved from the Wakefield prison in Yorkshire to the Wocerestershire jail so he could be closer to his ill mother. We can’t imagine what might make his mom sick – can you? In other Lostprophets-related news, rumors have surfaced that former Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly might be working with the former members of the band on a new project, but that has yet to be confirmed.
