As Deftones’ sophomore album, Around the Fur, celebrated it’s 20th anniversary this year, it’s given many an opportunity to re-examine the album. One of the best metal albums of that year, many have spent time gazing at the cover, featuring a photograph of a girl standing in a jacuzzi in a bikini with a somewhat vacant look on her face. Photographer Rick Kosick, who shot the cover, spoke about it to Revolver around the anniversary. However, Pousta tracked down the covergirl herself, Lisa Hughes, and spoke to her for the first time in 20 years.
Hughes denies that she was mad at Kosick for taking the picture, and says that guitarist Stephen Carpenter, who she was friends with, was the person that asked if they could use the photo. Now in her 40s, Hughes lives in Washington and has a job in the medical field. It seems like she’s still active, stating she enjoys snowboarding, hiking and biking. You can read the whole article, which also includes an interview with Kosick, who went on to be part of the Jackass crew, here. In the meantime, here’s what Hughes looks like these days.
