Sanctuary and Iced Earth remember Warrel Dane

Posted by on December 13, 2017

While we continue to mourn the sudden loss of Nevermore/Sanctuary frontman Warrel Dane, who passed away earlier this morning from an alleged heart attack, Sanctuary shared their thoughts via Facebook:

Today I wake up to the news that Warrel Dane has died. I don’t even know what to say. My friend, brother and musical companion for over 30 years has passed away. I’m in total shock right now. I’m sorry for any close family or friends that had to hear the news on Facebook.”

His death was unexpected, however his voice will remain immortal. Towards the tail end of last month, Iced Earth announced a 2018 North American headlining tour, which kicks off on February 22nd. Sanctuary were originally scheduled as their special guests along with Kill Ritual, and it is safe to assume there will be another announcement to reveal a change. However, Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer did share his thoughts on the late Dane:

“The band and I send our sincere condolences to Warrel Dane’s family and loved ones. He was an old friend of the band and will be missed. Cheers to you and your legacy brother, you made your mark, and you will not be forgotten!

Big love, Jon Schaffer”

A few months ago, guitarist Jeff Loomis discussed  about Nevermore’s sour breakup along with the possibility for a reunion:

And if the timing is right, maybe one day we’ll do a couple more songs or maybe an album even, who knows? It’s quite possible.”

Ultimate-Guitar noted that Wikipedia originally stated he was 48 years old, when he was, in fact, 56. Wikipedia has since corrected this error.

It is evident that we are still shocked and devastated from this loss along with being reminded of a future uncertain.
