Show Review: Cannibal Corpse @ The Chameleon Club, Lancaster, PA on November 5, 2018
Cannibal Corpse slaughtered the packed-to-the gills mess of humanity that converged in Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s esteemed Chameleon Club this past Monday evening. Nearly a square inch of floor space was not to be found as hundreds made their way through torrential downpours and flooding to catch a glimpse of one of death metal’s true pioneers.
Fans who braved the rain were treated to an intense 18 song set that ran the gamut from the brilliant Red Before Black through the early favorites like “Hammer Smashed Face.” The crowd got extremely loud singing along to classics like “Make Them Suffer” as multiple mosh pits erupted. Cannibal brought the fans essentially everything they could ask for as they tore through their greatest cuts from their storied thirty-year history.
If you never had the opportunity to see this band, the time is now. There is an incredible set list on this tour with something for everyone. Their live sound is spot on – in fact, one of the best sounding performances I’ve heard in the tinny Chameleon thanks to the help of Cannibal’s highly talented live audio engineer. You feel the bass, the drums and the guitars on the low end and in the middle but also hear minimal distortion on the highs so the solos come out sounding clean.
While the band’s imagery might shock some, those who are on the fence have nothing to fear. These are five guys doing what they love to do – respecting their fans and having a great time on the road. Even music fans who might not like metal seem to love watching Cannibal Corpse play.
Happily there were tons of great merch that fans could purchase at the venue including autographed album art, drum heads, a variety of t-shirts and sweats and a multitude of patches. All priced reasonably. Bring your money.
If a damp and rainy Monday night show in Lancaster, PA nearly sold out, fans may wish to consider buying tickets for upcoming shows well in advance. I think there is considerable risk of future shows selling out. You don’t want to miss this.
