On Friday (23) Charred Walls of the Damned will release their third album, Creatures Watching Over the Dead. The drummer, who’s played with the likes of Death, Iced Earth and Control Denied, has had his own band since 2009. And as accomplished a drummer as he is, Christy might be just as well known for his role on the Howard Stern show, where his love of all things Halloween and horror movies has been given a public forum. You can preorder Creatures Watching Over the Dead, which features an all-star lineup of Tim “Ripper” Owens on vocals, Jason Suecof on guitar and Steve DiGiorgio on bass, here.

We’ve caught up with Christy about horror before, having him rank the Friday the 13th series of films.  But as much of a classic horror buff he is, we thought we’d ask him about recent horror. So without further ado, here are Christy’s five favorite horror films (well, one’s a series) from the past half decade.
It Follows (2014)

With an amazing synth soundtrack reminiscent of John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream, how can you go wrong?! This film has such a cool twist on the ghost story involving STD’s and is scary as hell! I saw it in the theater several times and have watched it many more on DVD, if you’re a horror fan you must see this film!

WNUF Halloween Special (2013)

This film totally reminds me of watching local news on a Halloween night in 1987 while stuffing myself with caramel popcorn balls and Watchamacallits when I was 13 years old. Promoted as a lost tape of a Halloween night newscast from 1987, this movie is tons of fun and captures the magic of Halloween perfectly. The commercials are awesome too!

Deathgasm (2015)

When I read an interview with the director of this film and he said he was inspired by the 1988 classic Night of the Demons, I knew I was going to love this movie! Any horror film with Nunslaughter on the soundtrack is a film for me!

The Witch (2016)

I saw this movie at my favorite movie theater, Nitehawk in Brooklyn, NY, and while I sucked down several mimosas (yes they serve drinks there!) on a Saturday morning/early afternoon I honestly didn’t know what to think of this movie. Then the ending happened, one of the coolest endings EVER! I had to immediately see it again.

Stranger Things (2016)

I’m sure by now you’ve heard of this series on Netflix and I hope the overhype hasn’t ruined you on the show if you haven’t seen it because no amount of hype will do this show justice, yes it is that awesome. This show has one of the best soundtracks EVER courtesy of two guys from the band Survive, and I feel like the show was tailor made for somebody like me who grew up in the 1980’s and loves movies like Monster Squad!
