Sacramento post-hardcore band Slaves have only been together since 2014, but they haven’t had an easy run of things. Perhaps that’s why it’s not super surprising to hear that they called it quits after last night’s show in Santa Cruz, CA. The band posted on Saturday, “Tonight in Sacramento and tomorrow in Santa Cruz are the last Slaves shows EVER. Come send the band off with us.” While there’s no official reason given as to the split, about two weeks ago, their guitarist Alex Lyman exited the band, which probably helped expedite the end of the band.
Last year, the band were voted off the Vans Warped Tour after frontman Jonny Craig was accused of selling drugs out of the band’s trailer and inappropriately sexually harassing a merch seller. The band came very close to breaking up following that, as their agent also dropped them. Also last year, Lyman was stabbed by a convicted felon, which was later classified as a hate crime.
