Last December, guitarist Matt DeVries provided fans with a lengthy but humble statement explaining why he decided to leave Chimaira after more than ten years. Now, we’re waiting to hear why exactly he’s leaving Six Feet Under.
Six Feet Under revealed late last night that DeVries, who joined as their touring bassist last year, has left the group to pursue other musical endeavors. Nothing else about the split was revealed in the released statement, with more details about a new permanent bassist expected to be announced in the coming months.
So what “musical endeavors” is DeVries working on? Well, it’s safe to assume that we’ll find out soon enough, as the guitarist posted “Big news coming soon…..” on his Facebook page late last night. Still, it’s not extremely surprising to hear that DeVries has left Six Feet Under, considering he joined the group as a “touring bassist.” Then again, DeVries did say that he was “looking forward to the opportunities within Six Feet Under, and seeing what potential lies ahead” back in December.
Even without DeVries, though, it’s still fun to make Chimaira Feet Under jokes. After all, former Chimaira members Rob Arnold and Kevin Talley are still playing with frontman Chris Barnes in the death metal group, right?
