If you trust online gossip, then it would appear that System Of A Down will be returning from their long hiatus in the summer of 2011. But again, that’s if you trust online gossip. A French radio host named Francis Zégut is claiming on his official blog that System Of A Down will be performing at the Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy in Paris, France on June 6, 2011. It’s believed that this show will be one of many shows set to take place this Summer, with an official announcement about more plans possibly coming as soon as next week.
As great as this may sound, we can’t reiterate enough that this should only be taken as a rumor. Keep in mind, this wouldn’t be the first time we were misled by rumors regarding SOAD’s return, and this isn’t even coming from an official source. Plus, frontman Serj Tankian has stated as recently as August that the band, who has been on hiatus since 2007, has no plans to return just yet. Although, that was before Tankian’s sophomore solo album Imperfect Harmonies came out and had imperfect sales. Take into account that Scars On Broadway (Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan) hasn’t been doing so hot either, and a SOAD reunion might seem more likely.
If Zégut is right, then we can expect an official announcement very soon. If not, then you can bet that at least one of the band members will release a statement shooting down the rumor within the next few days. Either way, we shall update you when more is informed.
