TMZ reports that ex-Social Distortion drummer Casey Royer was arrested last week in Orange County after overdosing on heroin in front of his 12 year old son. According to law enforcement sources, the 52 year old punk drummer was watching TV with his son when he experienced an overdose. After his son ran to their neighbors for help, Royer was rushed to the hospital and surviving from the overdose. He was arrested soon afterwards. Today, he was officially charged with one count of child endangerment and one count of being under the influence of heroin, while also being held with a $120,000 bail.
Royer was the drummer in Social Distortion’s first lineup. Though he was in the band from 1978 to 1981, Royer appeared on none of the band’s recordings. Once leaving Social Distortion, Royer went on to play in The Adolescents until 1987. During his time with The Adolescents he formed a new group called D.I., which he currently still plays in (as their vocalist).
We’ll keep you posted when more is revealed. Hopefully this won’t have a similar outcome as to the last time we reported on a rock star’s drug problem.
