Death Metal legends Deicide are out supporting their April 2024 release Banished by Sin with a 34-date trek across North America with fellow Death Metal heavyweights Krisiun and support from Inferi and Cloak in the direct opening slots. The Banished by Sin 2024 Tour made the second of two Southern California stops Sunday night September 29 at Brick by Brick in San Diego (they played in Los Angeles the previous night).

Cloak, with their black metal set, and Inferi’s melodic death metal started the evening in fine form, with both bands delivering brutally heavy sets with Brick by Brick thrashing appropriately. This set the mood for what was to come, and San Diego was ready. The Death Metal trio Krisiun makes a hell of a lot of noise for just three people in the band. They started their set with the banger “Hatred Inherit,” and vocalist/bassist Alex Camargo led a 50-minute lesson in aggression as, along with brothers Moyses Kolesne on guitar and Max Kolesne with his machine gun drumming, belted out some of the fastest, heaviest death metal on the planet.

Camargo thanked the crowd for continuing to support underground metal, and the band got the most violent response of the night as they closed out their set with “Black Force Domain,” the title track off their 1995 debut album. With all in attendance now hot, sweaty, buzzed, and bruised, San Diego was ready for the onslaught of Deicide.

Glen Benton casually strolled on stage, validated his bass was tuned, made a comment about having a shitty time in CA, and the band ripped into “When Satan Rules His World” from 1995’s Once Upon the Cross. Benton, along with Steve Asheim on drums, are the two sole original members flanked by Kevin Quirion and Taylor Nordberg on guitars, and these four dudes bang out some serious Death Metal that had a circle pit going the entire set.

Benton is just brutal with his guttural vocals and aggressive bass playing and delivers a monster performance. The band played five songs off the latest album, Banished by Sin, and this new material is pure Deicide, fitting in nicely with the classics. Asheim continues to be at the top tier of metal drummers with his super-fast, precision drumming, and Quirion and Nordberg scorch the solos and heavy riffs.

So many brutal songs from start to finish the set included “Sacrificial Suicide,” “Satan Spawn, the Caco-Daemon,“Dead by Dawn, and the closing song, “Homage for Satan. Glen Benton remains the pissed off anti-Christian soldier he has always been with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and he delivers some of the most brutal vocals known to man.

Deicide had to cancel their Las Vegas show on Monday, September 30, due to an unnamed band member having an unforeseen illness, but the tour continues through October 11, where Deicide will play a hometown show in Tampa, FL.
