king largeIt had been years since King Diamond played in the United States, and after undergoing triple-bypass heart surgery in 2010, it was beginning to look like his touring days might be over. His appearance the following year for Metallica’s 30th anniversary proved he was back, and in 2012, began doing the festival circuit in the rest of the world, but anticipation was high still for a North American tour. Earlier this year, their tour was announced, and some of the dates, including New York, sold out almost instantly. The show didn’t disappoint at all. King sounded as good as he ever has, his band sounded fantastic, and the theatricality of the show was extremely impressive. He even threw in a pair of Mercyful Fate songs. Whether you were a longtime fan or someone that had never seen them before, the show was a triumphant return.

Metal Insider contributing photographerWes Orshoski was on hand to document the show.
