Just over two weeks after Songtradr acquired Bandcamp, the company implemented significant layoffs as of today (16th). The restructuring affected several, possibly up to half, of Bandcamp’s staff, including those at Bandcamp Daily. JJ Skolnik, the recently former senior editor, revealed on X that about half the company was laid off. Despite taking over the company from Epic Games and promising to foster Bandcamp’s growth, one of the first moves has yet to seem optimistic since the takeover. According to Vulture, Songtradr has not officially acknowledged the Bandcamp employee union, Bandcamp United, despite prior discussions with Epic Games and a petition. Layoffs apparently took place instead.
officially laid off, after two weeks of limbo where i expected that would be the case but had no confirmation. nearly eight years at bandcamp and it’s over. if anyone is looking for a dedicated, talented, and professional editor and culture writer, i’m on the market

about half the company was laid off today. some of the most incredible people i’ve ever worked with, including two of my amazing editorial colleagues @diamonde and @atoosamoinzadeh and most of the incredible support staff among many others. this is a loss, no two ways about it
