It wasn’t too long ago when Gojira’s Joe Duplantier surprised us when he revealed Mastodon’s Emperor of Sand as one of his top ten favorite metal albums of all time. We were shocked when we noticed Rob Zombie’s Hellbilly Deluxe is one of Ozzy Osbourne’s. Rolling Stone revealed another selection and this time, it’s Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt’s top ten. His classic choices barely reach the 90s and go back to 1969 with Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin II. However, the frontman’s taste is slightly similar to Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich since both of their lists do not include any Metallica albums.

  1. Lucifer’s Friend – Where the Groupies Killed the Blues, (1972)
  2. Deep Purple – Stormbringer, (1974)
  3. Yngwie J. Malmsteen – Rising Force, (1984)
  4. Entombed – Left Hand Path, (1990)
  5. King Diamond – “Them”, (1988)
  6. Morbid Angel – Altars of Madness, (1989)
  7. Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II, (1969)
  8. Rainbow – Rising, (1976)
  9. Judas Priest – Sad Wings of Destiny, (1976)
  10. Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, (1973)
