The nominees are in for the 93rd Academy Awards. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the award ceremony has ultimately been scheduled at the Union Station Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday, April 25th. This year’s Oscars will honor movies released from January 1st, 2020, to February 28th, 2021. 

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have received two Oscar nominations for the same category. The two are nominated for the Music Original Score for David Fincher’s film Mank and their collaboration with Jon Batiste for the Pixar animation film Soul. 

Another metal nod has gone to actor Riz Ahmed, who is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role, for his portrayal of a metal drummer named Ruben in the Amazon Prime film, The Sound of Metal, directed by Darius Marder. The British Pakistani actor has become the first Muslim nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards.  Sound of Metal is nominated for six awards, including Best Picture. Fincher’s Mank takes the lead with ten nominations and Soul holds strong for three. You can view the full list of nominations here.
