Defeater have parted ways with guitarist, vocalist, and producer Jay Maas. He’s been with the band for all their studio albums, dating back to 2008’s Travels, but according to the Boston, MA band things just weren’t working out.
Said the band via Facebook:
“Over the weekend it was decided to move forward as a band without the participation of Jay Maas due to personal & creative differences. All scheduled Defeater shows and tours will go on as planned and we wish Jay luck in his future endeavors. Thank you”
Defeater is scheduled to do the Never Say Die! Tour in Europe next month with The Amity Affliction and Being As An Ocean, while Maas – who has run Getaway Recording since 2004 – has been recording a band at Ghost City Recordings in Germany as of a few days ago. He’s kept plenty busy as a producer over the years (working with bands like Title Fight, Bane, Cruel Hand), so maybe scheduling became an issue with being part of a full time band like Defeater?
Defeater just released Abandoned, their first album with Epitaph Records back in late August, but it didn’t do quite well as 2013’s Letters Home which debuted at #70.
