melvinsgrohlThe last time Melvins’ Buzz Osborne was talking about Nirvana, he was trashing Montage of Heck, the documentary about Kurt Cobain. And while he might have had pretty solid memories of seeing Dave Grohl’s pre-Nirvana band Scream back in the day, he hasn’t really hung out with the Foo Fighters frontman recently. Despite a near-reconciliation after a Scream reunion show a few years back, which Buzzo blew off for baseball tickets, Buzzo and Grohl’s careers have gone in different trajectories. Mainly, the Melvins have stayed where they are, while Grohl has become one of the biggest rock stars since his former singer killed himself.

Lately, there’s nothing Grohl can do wrong. Make an album and documentary by jamming with your idols? Check. Play shows with a broken leg? Sure, as long as you can tour with a specially made chair that you made while high. Make fun of a guy who’s mom just died? Even that didn’t really tarnish his image. That being said, there might be a little too much Grohl love. And that’s where Melvins roadie Brian Walsby stepped in. At yesterday’s Melvins show in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall, the above Walsby artwork was on sale. It shows a familiar sight – Dave Grohl playing guitar on his throne. Only it’s a toilet in Walsby’s version. We’re sure Grohl doesn’t care too much, but it’s kind of fun to see a band that isn’t trying to anoint the Foo frontman as the next pope.
