TMZ reports that Deadsy vocalist Elijah Blue Allman was hospitalized over the weekend after an apparent overdose in Southern California. The son of Cher and the late Gregg Allman was rushed to a hospital in Joshua Tree early Saturday morning (14th). The specific substances involved have not been disclosed.
Allman has openly struggled with substance abuse since the age of eleven. In 2023, Cher filed for a conservatorship to control his finances, citing concerns over his mental health and substance abuse issues. The conservatorship ended a few months later. While TMZ described the incident as a substance-related hospitalization, People reported that authorities responded to Allman “acting erratically.”
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement:
“Deputies from our Morongo Basin Station responded to a residence in Landers for a male subject acting erratically. When deputies arrived, Elijah Allman, 48, was being evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Deputies located drugs inside the home and Allman was transported to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.”
Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King Allman, expressed continued support in a statement to People:
“While it is true that Elijah has faced personal challenges in the past, one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves. Like many, he continues to confront his inner struggles — but it is important to recognize that he does so from a place of strength, not defeat.
Despite the assumptions that often color how his journey is portrayed, the reality is that Elijah remains grounded, focused and deeply committed to living with integrity and purpose. I want to state, without hesitation, that I will always root for him. My support is steadfast and comes from a place of deep respect for the person he is and the resilience he continues to show.”
Deadsy went on hiatus in 2007 and resurfaced around 2017. In 2020, the band announced plans for their long-awaited third album, Subterfugue, which has yet to be released. In February 2024, the group broke an 18-year silence with their new single, “(Study for a Portrait of) Napolean In Rags.”
