According to TMZ, sources close to the late Chester Bennington’s family shared that they are planning a suicide awareness organization. They believe young people who suffer from depression and/or mental illness might follow in the footsteps as the Linkin Park singer and Chris Cornell. The organization is in the early stages and there’s no definitive starting date. However, they urge those who feel this way to confide to their friends and family. Many have expressed the importance of knowing, it’s OK to not be OK.

There’s been speculation Bennington’s suicide was a reaction from Cornell’s, as the two were close and there were quite a few similarities. It’s feared that this could lead towards an unfortunate trend. Following Bennington’s death, Alternative Nation reported two suicides that could be considered imitations of the two deaths. During tragic times like these, we need to be observant on those close to us and for those who are suffering. You can always contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (1-800-273-8255).
