Penelope Spheeris, the visionary behind The Decline of Western Civilization (1981) and Wayne’s World (1992) revisits hard rock and metal in the late ’90s. The film, which remained largely unpublicized, boasts Sharon Osbourne as its producer and delves into the aftermath of the 1999 edition of Ozzfest. In this cinematic journey, Spheeris skillfully captures the raw energy that ignited the nu-metal scene with artists System of a Down, Slipknot, and Godsmack during their nascent nu-metal phase. These acts shared the stage with Osbourne alongside legends like Black Sabbath and Slayer.

Titled We Sold Our Souls For Rock ‘N’ Roll, it will now hit the screens of the David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles, CA, this Friday (18th) while still awaiting an official home release. While the documentary did make its presence felt at several film festivals, it encountered legal difficulties that ultimately led to its shelving. For those eager to partake in this experience, tickets for the August 18th screening can be acquired via this location
