scarsymmetrysingularcdIt’s been awhile since we heard news from Swedish melodic metallers Scar Symmetry. The group has taken their time writing the follow-up to 2011’s The Unseen Empire, all while dealing with external complications, including a cancelled North American tour in 2012 due to visa issues, and the departure of guitarist Jonas Kjellgren last year due to scheduling conflicts. However, the band announced a few months ago that they would be releasing a trilogy of albums, collectively dubbed The Singularity, in the near future. Apparently the band has been working on all three albums at once, which might explain why it’s taken so long for information to become public. Forward progress seems to be happening now, though, as details about the first part of the trilogy are now starting to come out.

The Singularity (Phase 1 – Neohumanity) will be released on October 14th in the US and October 3rd in Europe. The cover artwork for the album (which vaguely brings to mind the cover from In Flames’ Clayman) can be seen here. All of the artwork for the trilogy is being handled by Mircea Gabriel Eftemie of Mnemic fame, so we can expect the covers to form a progression as the trilogy moves along its different themes of “transhumanism.” More information about the trilogy can be found in the below video that guitarist Per Nilsson posted on his personal YouTube page.
