German tech death doesn’t get any better than Obscura, who will be releasing their fourth album, Akroasis, next month. While Steffen Kummerer is the only original member of the band, the new album sounds pretty excellent so far, as witnessed by the title track and “Sermon of the Seven Suns,” the two songs we’ve heard from it so far. It’s a hat trick with “The Monist,” another song that they debuted earlier today on Metal Sucks. This is all over the place, in a great way. There are plenty of textures, including countrified guitar, busy basswork, some clean vocals alongside the deathy vox.

Listen to it below, and preorder the album, which is out on February 5th on Relapse, here.
