Monster Magnet have been getting into remixes lately. Their most recent album, 2013’s Last Patrol, got a companion remix album, Milking the Stars: A Re-Imagining of Last Patrol last year. Now they’re looking back to 2010”s Mastermind to release Cobras and Fire (The Mastermind Redux), their second remix album in as many years, due out on October 9 on Napalm Records.

The band’s psychedelia lends itself to the remix form, and it’s not like they’ve gone all EDM on you. It might be a little lazy to remake your most recent few albums, but if you’re a Monster Magnet completist, then you’ll dig these alternate takes of songs from their most recent albums. Then again, if you’re really a completist, you might already have “She Digs That Hole” an alternate version of “Dig That Hole,” from when it was on a 10″ single. This version is a little bit rawer and more stripped down than Mastermind‘s version. At any rate, head over to High Times to listen to the extended version, or just click below.  Here’s what frontman Dave Wyndorf says about Cobras and Fire:

“I wanted to present these songs in a much stranger and dirtier atmosphere,” says the band’s founder and frontman Dave Wyndorf. “Less ‘classic rock’ and more…well, I’d guess I’d call it a deranged fusion of Garage-Psych, Fuzz Punk and Movie Soundtrack music.”

Cobras and Fire (The Mastermind Redux) is out on October 9 on Napalm Records. You can preorder it here.
