Today’s a pretty great day if you’re not a fan of 4/4 metal. First we got a brand new Meshuggah song, and Candiria just released a song from their forthcoming album, as well as given out some information about what we can expect from it. While They Were Sleeping, which will be out on October 7th on Metal Blade, is a concept album about a failed musician that “rises up against a monarchy in New York City.”

While Candiria’s earlier albums were an unpredictable blend of hardcore, math metal and jazz segueways, in their more recent years, they seemed to be getting more commercial. “Mereya,” which debuted earlier today, splits the difference. It’s definitely a little more straightforward hardcore, with Carley Coma’s vocals alternating between singing and screaming. Then at about the 1:35 mark, a fusion bassline runs straight into a jazzy vampy freakout for a minute. In short, they’re back, and it’s great. The band will be announcing a headlining tour in support of the album.

You can preorder While They Were Sleeping here.
