There have been enough textures throughout Baroness’ three albums that it’s obvious guitarist Pete Adams knows what he’s doing. Valkyrie, his side project with his brother, Jake, recently emerged from dormancy and will be releasing Shadows on May 19th. The album, their first in eight years and first on Relapse, will be supported by a handful of tour dates. You’ve already had a chance to hear the album’s opener, “Mountain Stomp,” and now the band are streaming a new track, “Wintry Plains.”
The song is in keeping with the rest of the album, which is to say that it’s excellent southern stoner rock in the vein of Down and Deliverance-era Corrosion of Conformity. While the Baroness feel is there as well, it’s more straight up rock and roll. Here’s where you’ll be able to catch them, including a stop at the Metal Insider-sponsored Death To False Metal Fest:
05/22 Harrisonburg, VA – Golden Pony
05/23 Charlottesville, VA – Main Street Annex
05/29 Philadelphia, PA – Kung Fu Necktie
05/30 Richmond, VA – Strange Matter
05/27 Frederick, MD – Maryland Doom Fest
08/14 Hamden, CT – Death to False Metal Fest
You can preorder Shadows here. It’s out on May 19th on Relapse Records
