We’re not even five months into 2015, but if we were to look at trends for the year in metal, it seems like the metal festival is spreading to the United States. With Roadburn, Wacken, and Download the European standard-bearers, America’s only major multi-day festivals are the Maryland Deathfest, and of course the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Yet next month, the Psycho California fest will take over California for a weekend, The Uninvited Fest is likely happening again in Brooklyn this year, and there’s a brand new festival that’s just been announced in August headed to Connecticut, the Death To False Metal Festival.
Curated and booked by our own Dissident Aggression author Chip McCabe, Metal Insider is a co-sponsor of the Festival, along with Earsplit Media. The two-day festival will take place on Friday, August 14th and Saturday, August 15th at the Outer Space & Ballroom in Hamden CT, just outside of New Haven. The fest is a nice combination of regional and international talent. Here’s how the lineup shakes out:
Friday, August 14th
Whiplash
Valkyrie
Imperial Triumphant
Nightbitch
Vengeance
Bedroom Rehab
Saturday, August 15th
Krieg
Secrets of the Sky
Immortal Bird
Destroyer of Light
Godhunter
Grizzlor
Secret Cutter
Tomb & Thirst
Archaic Decapitator
Here’s what McCabe has to say about the Festival:
“The name Death to False Metal is actually a bit tongue-in-cheek. The metal scene is littered with way too many people who carry an ‘I’m more underground than you’ attitude, which I find amusing, so the title is dedicated to them. However, the name does reflect that we are looking for a certain aesthetic for the bands that play this festival. Our lineup is fairly eclectic, with thrash, death metal, black metal, doom, grindcore, traditional metal, etc. But we will not stand for generic, cookie-cutter garbage; we want the best of the best, every year.”
Tickets will go on sale on Friday, May 1 via the site’s Facebook page. You can also follow along on Twitter. We’re extremely excited to be involved with this, and you’ll be hearing a lot more about it moving forward.
