Metal By Numbers 8/11: What A Crazy Bitch Of A Week

Posted by on August 11, 2010

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
This week’s top metal debut goes to Buckcherry’s All Night Long. The sleaze rock band’s fifth album, and third since reforming in 2005, made it all the way to the top 10 and sold more than 27,000 copies. It’s an impressive first week, even though the first single “All Night Long” doesn’t capture the same poetic genius as “Crazy Bitch” or “Too Drunk.” Just goes to show you that America will always be in need of a new stripper anthem.

Notable Debuts:

Buckcherry, All Night Long (Eleven Seven) #10, 27,600 sold
Wait, the band’s video for “All Night Long” doesn’t feature any scantily clad women?!

In the Midst of Lions, The Heart of Man (Facedown) 1000 sold
This marks another Christian metal group that had a pretty good first week in sales this Summer.

Wretched, Beyond the Gate (Victory) 760 sold
They claim to have the bloodiest music video ever. After watching it, I’d certainly say they give Slayer a run for their money.

All Out War, Into the Killing Fields (Victory) 500 sold
A good first week for All Out War, especially since they may or may not still be signed to Victory Records.

Notable Sales:

Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare (Warner Bros.) #3, 45,200 sold
The band may have experienced a 72% decrease and fell behind Eminem in their second week on the charts, but Nightmare still remains in the top 5 and is the highest selling hard rock record of the week.

Korn, Korn III: Remember Who You Are (Roadrunner) #41, 9,700 sold
Korn slide down 19 rankings from last week on the charts. Remember when they were at #2?

Ozzy Osbourne, Scream (Epic) #46, 8,400 sold
Ozzy might be happy that his “beef” with Zombie has been buried. Then again, he probably doesn’t give a crap.

Godsmack, Oracle (Universal) #51, 7,500 sold
Godsmack singer Sully Erna appears to have a new solo album coming out soon.

Five Finger Death Punch, War Is The Answer (Prospect Park) #57, 7,000 sold
This album just keeps rising on the charts!

AC/DC, AC/DC: Iron Man 2 (Columbia) #70, 6,000 sold
Ex-Exodus singer Steve “Zetro” Souza has formed a new AC/DC tribute band dubbed AC/DZ.

Hellyeah, Stampede (Epic) #75, 5,700 sold
Apparently the song “It’s On” will serve as the theme song to TNA Wrestling’s new Pay Per View No Surrender. Wrestling + Hellyeah = a perfect, sweaty match.

Motley Crue, Greatest Hits (Motley Records) #107, 4,200 sold
Sold pretty much the exact same it did last week. With Ozzfest just around the corner, you can bet that the greatest hits album’s sales will remain the Same Ol’ Situation for the rest of the Summer.

Bullet For My Valentine, Fever (Jive) #112, 4,100 sold
After reading The Dirt, I’m pretty sure that the boys in Crue would totally hook up with the Crab cover girl.

Bret Michaels, Custom Built (Poor Boy) #119, 3,900 sold
Not too far off from where the Poison frontman found himself last week.

Black Veil Brides, We Stitch These Wounds (Standby) #159, 2,900 sold
With a 40% decrease in their third week, the newbie’s stay on the charts seems close to ending.

Deftones, Diamond Eyes (Reprise) #163, 2,800 sold
In comparison, The Deftones’ stay on the charts has lasted fourteen weeks.

Rob Zombie, Hellbilly Deluxe 2 (Roadrunner, Loud & Proud) #186, 2,500 sold
Two weeks ago, Zombie made a return to the charts only to be absent again last week. With a new deluxe album coming out in the Fall, a new tour scheduled with Alice Cooper, and apparently getting back on good terms with the Prince of Darkness, expect to see Zombie appear off and on the charts for a bit.

Attack Attack!, Attack Attack! (Rise) #194, 2,500 sold
Even though they almost exited the top 200 this week, I learned from last time not to get my hopes up.

Eyes Set To Kill, Broken Frames (Break Silence) 1,100 sold
Wow! A huge 151% increase from the band that seems to be a big hit at the Warped Tour this year. Then again, maybe the fact that you can currently download this album for $5 on Amazon has something to do with it.

3 Inches Of Blood, Here Waits Thy Doom: Deluxe Edition (Century Media) 1000 sold
Looks like you can download the original version of Here Waits Thy Doom on Amazon for just $5 as well.

36 Crazyfists, Collisions and Castaways (Ferret) 1,000 sold
A 70% decrease sees the Alaskans slip off the charts in their second week.

Pierce The Veil, Selfish Machines (Equal Vision), 900 sold
So a lot of you got back to me about how Eyes Set To Kill was on the Warped Tour. Well how about Pierce The Veil? Anyone catch them?

iwrestledabearonce, It’s All Happening (Century Media) 830 sold
Why am I not surprised that they are headlining a tour called The Ghostbustour?

How to Destroy Angels, How to Destroy Angels (The Null Corporation) 700 sold
I really wonder how many people mistook Trent Reznor’s new project with Coil’s single-EP “How To Destroy Angels”?

In Fear and Faith, Imperial (Rise) 700 sold
After Warped Tour, they’ll be on the Band Of Brothers Tour with We Came As Romans.

Ivoryline, Vessels (Tooth & Nail) 660 sold
Both Ivoryline and Decrepit have a slightly above 50% decrease in their second week.

Decrepit Birth, Polarity (Nuclear Blast) 600 sold
Before they go on the Decibel Defiance Tour with Suffocation and The Faceless this Fall, Decrepit Birth can be seen on the remaining Summer Slaughter dates.

We Came As Romans, To Plant A Seed (Equal Vision) 540 sold
After being absent last week, the band makes a return and allows me to say the following cheesy line: They came back!

Kingdom of Sorrow, Behind the Blackest Tears (Relapse) 500 sold
Jamey Jasta is the only guy who gets to say that he played at both Mayhem Fest (with Hatebreed) and Ozzfest (with Kingdom of Sorrow) in the same summer.

Chelsea Grin, Desolation Of Eden (Razor & Tie/Artery) 430 sold
It appears that the band’s debut full length album has made a return to the charts after its release seven months ago. This might come as good news for the band after singer Alex Koehler’s jaw injury.

Nevermore, The Obsidian Conspiracy (Century Media) 380
The Seattle progressive metallers make a return this week as well, though just barely.
