05) Akhlys, House Of The Black Geminus (Debemur Morti Productions)
From esoteric dreams to the darkness of the underworld, Akhlys has explored it all in their heavy, but at times atmospheric black metal. This 4th studio album combines the essence from all their past works onto one grand and dark mythical planet that bleeds black into the souls of its listeners. This is what the future of black metal should be about. Combining that volatile release of evil with the exploration of the darkest emotional roller-coaster ride, this album serves its fans a delicate but rewarding dish.
Key Track: Sister Silence, Brothers Sleep
04) Gost, Prophecy (Metal Blade)
Moving on to one of the most unique electronic and heavy metal artists, Gost has done it again with this thirteen-track album, Prophecy. Between the constructive turmoil of “Digital Death,” and the mechanical electrocutional mystery behind “Through The Water,” the listener has fully succumbed to their auditory demise in the best way. While there is nothing “pleasant” about ‘Prophecy’ by GOST, there is a high probability that fans will enjoy this musical lobotomy. With the flourishing, strong, and dark concept albums that James Lollar has created over the last ten years, fans are going to crave even more wealth for the future of GOST. It’s not even a question whether or not Lollar plans to fully and proudly deliver to his fans after they have listened to his unique discography. Every Gost album brings something different, yet genius into the spotlight, and this one rules! Despite possibly being misunderstood at first, there is no denying the unique electronic, and mechanical style Gost explores when mixing it all into heavy metal.
Key Track: Digital Death
03) Body Count, Merciless (Century Media)
When in doubt, there is always and forever Body Count. Another unusual style of heavy metal, but it is always a fun treat to hear their discography. From Bloodlust to Manslaughter, to Merciless, Body Count brings a sweet yet bloody flavor to the genre of heavy metal. The “in your face” vocals combined with the raw and real guitars, backed by powerful beats, make Merciless a must listen on this list of top heavy metal albums in 2024.
Key Track: Live Forever
02) Devin Townsend, PowerNerd (Inside Out Music)
If ever a wild, vast, progresive, death, and whatever else is on his mind, genious of heavy metal that there ever was, Devin Townsend fits the bill smashingly. PowerNerd is another whacky and truly fun concept album created by Canadian based Devin Townsend. It’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s the most nerd style heavy metal that is packed full of power and punch. If this doesn’t sound appealing, I can assure you it is. This album is Devin Townsend not holding back, and the result is mind blowing awesomeness that combines his heavy guitar style with the creative physiological breakdown he accompanies with his best musical works. Don’t skip out on this one, as it is a very refreshing release of the struggle within.
