Ever since their reunion tour in 2007, rumors of a new Van Halen album and tour with David Lee Roth have been swirling around the internet. Granted, I understand that a new Van Halen album with Roth back in the band is pretty big news. However, all of these “confirmations” that eventually get dismissed as rumors are getting annoying. Case in point: MelodicRock.com reported that producer Ross Hogarth (Motley Crue, DevilDriver, Faster Pussycat) was working with the band on a new album, and that recording was moving slowly. This comes after Warner/Chappell Music revealed back in August that Van Halen indeed was in the studio working on a new album and would be touring in 2011. So that puts an end to it, right? Wrong!
This morning, Van Halen spokesperson Larry Solters dismissed MelodicRock.com’s report as “untrue” and that there is “no new tour on the books” and “no new album on the books.” He did admit to the site, though, that the band has met and is “working on stuff.” This marks the second time this year that a Van Halen source (the first being from VH publicist/Eddie Van Halen’s wife Janie Van Halen) has shot down new album and touring reports that previously sound legit. Thus, it’s a safe bet that Van Halen WILL NOT be touring or releasing a new album in 2011. Though as MetalSucks.net points out, maybe that isn’t such a bad thing.
