In 2010, Savannah’s Royal Thunder’s self-titled seven song EP was released on Relapse Records. Their debut full-length followed in 2012, and their bluesy hard rock caught on not only with metal fans, but the likes of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. Now the band are preparing to head into the studio to work on their sophomore full length, which is expected out sometime this Fall on Relapse. Like their last album, it will be produced at Marietta, GA’s Aria Recording Studio with producer Joey Jones. Here’s what singer/bassist MLny Parsonz had to say about the new album, which is essentially that she has no idea what it’s going to sound like:
“We meet again with our long time friend and producer Joey Jones at Aria Recording Studio in Marietta. We have no idea what this next album is going to sound like! We are anxious to see what the outcome will be. With that being said, we have NO agenda, NO formula, NO limits. This one is for the gods of rock! As always, thank you ALL for your support. See you on the road with these new songs! Until then, be well!”
It’ll be interesting to hear if there are noticeable differences between the 2012 version of the band and the 2014 one, since bassist Josh Coleman is no longer in the band, and Parsonz is handling bass duties as well. But the band’s pleasantly surprised us before, so we’re looking forward to the next album.
