Given how successful The Big 4’s U.S. debut last weekend in California was, it was a matter of time that Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax would eventually do an East Coast show together. And with Lars Ulrich’s comment to Rolling Stone after the show, it became even more of a guaranteed thing that another U.S. show would be added (in addition to their Summer European shows). But now it’s official: The Big 4 will be performing at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York on September 14, 2011.

Metallica confirmed the news via their website late Friday evening along with a trailer for the show (which can be seen below). Tickets will go on sale Friday (May 6) at 10 am via TicketMaster.com, while Met Club members (Metallica’s fan club) can log into the site for more information about a special pre-sale starting on Wednesday (May 4). In addition, Yankees season ticket holders will have their own pre-sale, also on May 4, starting at noon.

It makes sense that the Big 4’s East Coast show will take place in Yankee Stadium, both because of the venue’s size and since “Enter Sandman” is used as Yankee player Mariano Rivera’s entrance music. And while it’s kind of lame that the show is taking place on a Wednesday night, many fans (including us) would be willing to call in sick to work for the chance to see this event. And while the winner for this show is everyone on the East Coast, as far as the wining band, it’s definitely Anthrax. Not only is it a hometown show for the band, but their first album in what feels like 20 years, Worship Music, is slated to come out sometime in September. If they’re smart, that date will be September 13th. Psyched? Scott Ian sure is.

The real question that has us puzzled, though, is with such a huge announcement as this, why did they decide to announce it at around 9pm on a Friday? Most blog sites clock out at 6pm on a weekday (while on Friday we call it a day at 4pm), and normally announcements are made on Friday nights only to sweep the news under a carpet. Yet this is definitely news that no one would want glossed over. So why not wait till even Monday to report this big news?

Maybe someone at the Metallica camp let the cat out of the bag early? Then again…who cares?! Regardless, THE BIG 4 ARE PLAYING THE EAST COAST!!!! Check out the trailer for the show that was posted on YouTube below, while the trailer featuring Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s personal message for Yankee fans can be seen on the band’s site.
