While just about everyone else in the world was watching the Lost finale last night, Poison frontman Bret Michaels won Celebrity Apprentice, beating out Holly Robinson Peete for the title. The singer appeared on the live finale of the show despite having suffered a brain hemorrhage only one month before, and doctors finding out last week that he had a hole in his heart. According to CNN:
Bret Michaels deserved his standing ovation. He walked in slowly, with a limp. He wore one of his signature bandanas, a blue one, and his parents clapped proudly in the audience. Once Michaels sat at the boardroom table, he seemed to lean on the table a bit for support. Otherwise, he looked pretty good for a man who’s been through all he has.
For winning, Michaels nets $250,000 for the American Diabetes Association. Michaels has become better known as a reality TV star than a musician in recent years, which is fine, because has anyone really listened to Poison lately? That being said, good for him. A diabetes sufferer since the age of 6, his recent health problems have eclipsed that. For him to defy doctor’s orders, win a show based on merit (at least according to what we’re reading) by creating a Snapple campaign, and appear live on the finale is impressive indeed.
