Korn Mayhem Fest press conferenceWhen we arrived at the press tent for Mayhem Fest’s stop in Camden, NJ last Friday (August 1), we weren’t expecting to be part of a surprise Korn press conference. Yet suddenly there we were, sitting less than two feet away from guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer and drummer Ray Luzier along with about half a dozen other reporters for what felt less like a formal press conference and like a casual chat amongst friendly acquaintances. Only that these “friendly acquaintances” were two/fifths of Korn, one of the biggest and (whether you’d like to admit it or not) most influential hard rock bands of the past two decades.

The back and forth Q&A between the two Korn members and reporters hit on a number of topics, though a running topic was the group’s successful longevity and evolution over the years. However, here are the top five interesting things that came up during the surprise press conference with Munky and Luzier.

5. Munky would love to tour with Die Antwoord

Korn has always been known as road dogs, and have toured with everyone from Metallica to Ice Cube. If Munky had his way, though, he’d like to tour with South African rap-rave duo Die Antwoord. “I think it would be a really great experience for people to see what they do,” declared Munky. “They’re from another part of the world, and they sound like they’re from another part of the universe. Their look is really cool, and I think they would fit right in with what we do, and I think our fans would get it. [Although] I think it would be completely left field”
